What is Catalyst?

I believe every church, no matter how big or small, can play a vital role in the Kingdom of God. Unfortunately, so much focus gets placed on the wrong metrics, stuff like average attendance, giving, participation, etc., that a church can easily fall for the lie that they have lost their ability to be vital.

Catalyst is a resource designed to help churches rediscover their vitality, reignite their impact, and reimagine how they live out the gospel in today’s world. Rooted in the Book of Acts, it equips church leaders to assess their values, disciple with intention, and serve their communities, and rethink what is possible.

Content

Each session introduces one of the following metrics by using a case study, scripture from the NRSV, and an interactive activity helping participants contextualize the metric

  Community Values (Acts 2:42-46)

  • The shared beliefs and principles that guide how members of a community interact, make decisions, and support one another.

Community Impact (Acts 4:32-35)

  • The way a church’s actions and presence positively affect the well-being of the surrounding community

Discipleship Pathway (Acts 6:1-6)

  • A clear, intentional process that helps people grow deeper in their faith and live out Jesus’ teachings.

“Heaven on Earth” (Acts 11:27-30)

  • An understanding that we have all been given unique gifts and graces to help the world around us better reflect heaven on earth for all people.

Missional Flexibility (Acts 28:23-30)

  • Holding tightly to the purpose of making disciples and serving the world, while holding loosely to the forms, programs, or traditions that may no longer serve that purpose.

Numerical Growth (Acts 9:23-30)

  • The increase in the number of people attending, joining, or participating in a church.
